Happy Halloween

Hi There. It’s me again, Brett. In case you missed my first blog I am a 13 year old male Himalayan and full of lots of stuff to tell you. Halloween is upon us and for us cats it can be a nightmare. Children look cute in their costumes but do they have to make so much noise? We cats do not like noise of any kind.

What I am here to tell you is two fold. First, let’s talk about home odor removal. As I stated in my last blog, odors are caused by many things such as dirty laundry in the hamper, left over cooking smells, body odor and even our litter box stinks. All of our homes have a certain smell that is exclusively our own home odor and that odor represents the home’s essence and personality. I once heard a blind man say he always knew whose house he was in because of the distinctive smell. But this is not the type of odor I am talking about. What I am talking about is the kind that when you open the door Halloween night you may find a bunch of trick-or-treaters lying on your porch knocked out from your home odors.

You don’t want to use aerosols or those discount store products advertised for home odor removal. No matter what their advertisements say, these do not remove the odors they just cover them up. They smell nice for a while and then BAM the odors are back. Besides aerosols are not very eco friendly and we are all green conscious these days. Use something that is kind to the environment. Can I recommend something you ask? Of course, try OdorZout. This is great stuff. I talked about it in my other blog. This stuff not only removes the odors but does it in a way that you would never ever know there were any odors to start with. Check out their various home odor removal products and you will never have to worry about your house smelling offensive.

I said this blog was two fold. Here is part two. If you have kitties keep them close to you Halloween night and don’t let them out of your sight. Watch the doors because you will be opening and closing them all evening. I would suggest you take your kitty or kitties and place them in a closed room with food and water and a temporary litter box until all the trick-or-treaters have gone. I am not saying that the kids would harm your cat(s) but at this time of the year there are a lot of sick people on the loose. Catnapping at Halloween time is more common than most people think.  No matter what color your cat is it is vulnerable but if it is black then it is even more vulnerable to being catnapped and hurt. I know you want it to see the kids in their costumes but really the kitties don’t care. Please look after them and keep them safe.

Bye for now. I will write soon.

This is Brett the author of this post.

Hi: My name is Brett and I am a thirteen year old male Himalayan. I live with four females, three feline and one human. Needless to say a guy just has to put his paw down once in a while. That is why I established and adhere to a true and definite male hierarchy. I am the boss. I get first choice of everything including the food dishes and places to sleep. But let’s talk about the litter box.

Cat Odor

Cat Odor

Since there are four of us using the litter box we have a very large one. My human lady does not like cat odor so keeps it clean but recently she did something strange. She used a cat odor remover. I did not know what that was but I trust her. When Mother Nature came to call I ran to the litter box and I noticed she laid a layer of litter down and then a layer of powder, which I assumed was what she called the cat odor remover, and then another layer of litter. I jumped into the box and wouldn’t you know? I could not find my spot. You know we cats are territorial even in the litter box. We have our own spots for everything and I could not find my spot in the litter box. Ignoring Mother Nature for a moment I jumped out of the box to see if it was still the same one. Yes, it was. What happened to my favorite spot? I jumped back in and looked again. Now, Mother Nature said “okay cat. It’s now or outside the box and then you’re in trouble.” I decided to make a new spot and then I remembered the cat odor remover. That stuff worked so well it removed my smell from way down deep. If my human lady uses this all of the time I will have to make a new favorite spot every time. Is that fair to an alpha cat? But then it is better than the smelly cat odor.

You may not believe it but smelly cat odor, even our own, annoys us cats too. It burns our noses as we smell around for our favorite spots and when we use the litter box. We just can’t say anything except in cat language. What I do when the box gets smelly and needs cleaning is meow loud and clear while sitting next to it. The message comes out that the box needs to be cleaned and the job is quickly done. I told you we had a hierarchy here.

I heard my human lady tell her friends about this cat odor remover stuff. She called it OdorZout. it sure does just that.

Oops, gotta go now. Two of my girls are fighting and I have to step in and stop it. An alpha cat’s job is never done. Will write to you all soon. In the meantime get some OdorZout and make your alpha cat happy.

My Kitty Cat Smells
icon1 Louise | icon2 Cat | icon4 01 15th, 2009| icon3No Comments »

It is probably not the kitty cat that smells but the urine deposits that it is leaving behind. Cat’s will mark their territory by urinating. Some cats urinate outside the litter box and others have a strong urine smell even when they use the litter box. A cat will urine mark its territory when it is in a new living situation or if there are other cats in the house and it feels threatened. There are many reasons a cat will urinate outside of its litter box. It may not like the kind of litter that is in the box. Some cats are fussy and do not like course feeling litter or scented litter. If the cat is new to the household it is best to buy small amounts of litter until kitty has picked its favorite. Another reason a cat will urinate outside the litter box is a rare condition but nonetheless it happens. The condition is called feline senility. The cat actually forgets where it is and what it is supposed to do. If the cat is over 10 years old it is possible for it to contract this condition. You will know it because the cat will have a blank look and act lost. If this condition exists in your cat veterinary assistance is mandatory.

No matter what the reason your cat does not use its litter box the odor is not pleasant and must be eliminated. The floor where the litter box is housed can be washed and kept clean but the urine odor will permeate the room and eventually the entire house. If you have one cat it is easy to keep the litter box clean because it would be a small litter box. However, if you are a multi cat family than cleaning the litter box is a little more difficult because it would be fairly large. Sprays do not do the job of eliminating cat urine odor. They are a short term solution and once they evaporate the urine odor is back. There is a product on the market called OdorZout Odor Eliminator For Cats. It is an additive powder that is sprinkled directly into the litter box and eliminates the urine order at the source.

If the cat has decided that the carpeting is a good place to urinate whether purposefully or accidentally it not only leaves an odor but a stain as well. To clean the carpet use a mild detergent and warm water. Do not, under any circumstance, use ammonia to clean the spot. The main chemical in mammalian urine is ammonia. When you use this chemical to clean the spot on the rug you are telling kitty it is okay to use this spot again. After you have cleaned the spot with a mild detergent and warm water let the spot dry thoroughly and sprinkle OdorZout All Surface Granules to absorb the odor.

For successful cat odor removal OdorZout products are the answer. The product is natural and pleasant for you and the cat.

I suppose because it’s 102 degrees here today in Phoenix, that I’d like to bring up a point,  HEAT CAN BE DEADLY!!!!!!  Important tips to remember:  Don’t leave your pets outdoors unsupervised if you can help it. If you do leave them outside, make sure they have plenty of shade, water and a cool place to rest. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR ANIMALS IN A CAR IN THE SUMMER!!  The temperature in a car can soar to over 120 degrees in a matter of minutes. DO NOT WALK YOUR DOGS ON BLACKTOP IN PARKING LOTS to take your dog into a pet store.  THINK ABOUT IT, take your shoes off and see what it feels like…your dog HAS NO SHOES!!! And lastly, make sure your pet knows how to get out of your pool, if you have one.  Your pet may want to cool off, can they get out once they get into a pool?  DO NOT OVER EXERCISE your pet in the heat.  Your pets wear a fur coat, running and playing in the heat can make them overheat in no time. C’mon, just use common sense, folks and keep your pets safe!

Got skunk Stench?

Ok, so one call I got on Fri from a woman who’s cat got skunked at point blank, then ran into the house!  I thought some of you out there may have the same problem.

I told her to run to PetSmart (or one of the other retail stores listed on our website at 88.stink.com) and get the Cat Litter Additive Powder. It used to be called Pet Odor Eliminator…same product, different label.  You pack it on the pet, it’s totally safe to be licked or eaten…and sprinkle lightly any of the OdorZout All Surface granules around the house.  (Pet, Household and Cat All Surface are all the same, different labels for different depts)  Leave it 24 hours and vacuum it away.  Repeat until the odor is gone.  She called back today…odor eliminated!!  Man, skunk is one strong stink! Our skunk odor remover will do the trick every time.
